PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Wednesday marks the Portland Diamond Project’s 2-year anniversary…also known as PDP Day!

The project, an organized and community effort to bring Major League Baseball to Portland, has gained thousands of signatures on a petition to show MLB officials the depth and breadth of the fanbase.

Craig Cheek, the founder of the Portland Diamond Project, understands the main question people ask: Is this really going to happen?

“Yes, we believe it’s absolutely going to happen,” Cheek told KOIN 6 News. “The fan support is what’s fueling this.”

He added they’re “pressing as fast as we possibly can.”

They also unveiled a few new images of the ballpark, designed to be an open air stadium on the river. “We want it to be the best ballpark in all of baseball,” he said.

Their first-ever jersey was unveiled along with a new hat — both of which still display the Olde English P, which Cheek said was the logo used by the first baseball team in Portland.

The 2nd anniversary celebration was held at the Portland Diamond Project store directly across the street from Providence Park.

Cheek said one final thing about MLB in Portland.

“This is going to happen.”
