PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A man was apparently shot to death Tuesday morning near Dawson Park in North Portland, the 20th homicide of 2022.
The shooting was reported just after noon on Tuesday, PPB officials said. When officers arrived at the scene in the 2900 block of North Williams Avenue, they found the man already dead with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Officials said they were unable to find a suspect.
While authorities investigate, North Stanton Street is closed between North Williams Avenue and North Vancouver Avenue.
“I am aware and following the shooting that occurred at Dawson Park today. We are on pace to break last year’s record homicide rate. This situation is unacceptable. I want to thank the Portland Police and other first responders that are on the scene right now,” Commissioner Mingus Mapps said in a statement to KOIN 6 News.
KOIN 6 News also reached out to Commissioner Carmen Rubio’s office, who said “I am awaiting further details, but I’m saddened for those affected by this afternoon’s violence. Dawson Park is a community anchor and, although this did not happen in the park, our Park Rangers will be present at Dawson Park and available for park-goers.
This shooting also follows a shooting death at Dawson Park in broad daylight last March.
