PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An estranged couple pulled guns on each other Monday afternoon. The shots fired left one man dead, said Washington County Sheriff’s deputies.

Officers responded to a shooting along Germantown Road Monday afternoon. The man was shot in the bedroom of the home that the couple once shared. Investigators said the two had been going through a divorce.

A wife is being questioned after gunfire erupted in the bedroom of this Germantown home, killing her husband, September 23, 2019 (KOIN)

Deputies said the husband had come over to pick up some belongings. There was some sort of argument right before the shooting. The woman told authorities that the husband pulled a gun on her, and she ended up firing at him with her own firearm, said the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies recovered two handguns at the scene, and also said that it was the woman who called 911 after the shooting.

“From what we understand the man and the woman were married,” said Deputy Brian Van Kleef. “Going through a divorce, having some sort of argument – fired two shots at him and that’s where he died.”

Deputies said the woman remained at the scene as investigators went through the home to start their investigation. They report that she is being cooperative.

No other details about the shooting have been released.

This is a developing story.
