PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man died after a shooting involving Hillsboro police officers in their West Precinct parking lot Monday evening.
Officers were in the parking lot investigating suspicious behavior between two men who were standing outside their cars in the parking lot just after 6 p.m., Hillsboro police said.
One of the drivers was armed with a handgun and refused to drop it during the encounter, and shots were fired.
“The driver that was armed with the handgun is the one who was shot and pronounced deceased at the scene,” Sgt. Eric Bunday said. “The other driver was uninjured. Both drivers are adult men. We are not releasing their names at this time. A handgun was recovered at the scene.”
According to police, multiple officers were involved in the shooting, however, Hillsboro PD is not specifying how many officers fired their weapons or if the armed driver used his gun.
KOIN 6 News is still working to learn more about the suspicious circumstances officers said the two men were involved in.
The Washington County Major Crimes Team is investigating.
