PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) – A 19-year-old man is now the focus of a death investigation following a grand jury indictment that accuses him of murder.

Austin Luepke, who is from Vancouver, Wash., is charged with one count each of murder and unlawful use of a weapon. The grand jury indictment also accuses him of four counts of reckless endangering. He was arrested in Los Angeles and then brought back to Portland on May 27.

He is one of four people accused of having some sort of involvement in the death of Esteban “Steve” Del Cid, 20, who lived in Tualatin, died Feb. 28. He died after being shot earlier in the morning. Police went to the intersection of N. Vancouver and Ivy streets just after 3 a.m. to investigate a reported shooting.

After being shot, Del Cid and others got into a vehicle and started driving towards Legacy Emanuel Medical Center to get help. They got lost and called 911. Officers arrived on the hospital campus and found Del Cid. He was transported by ambulance to the ER, but died, police said.

In April, Police arrested Michael Kyree Knox, 19, and Taras Burchak, 18. They were both charged with three counts each of hindering prosecution. In May, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office filed a notice advising the court that the “State cannot proceed.” The charges against Knox and Burchak were dismissed by Judge Edward J. Jones. Both were released from custody. The District Attorney’s Office would not comment on its decision.

A fourth person said to be involved in the case is 20-year-old Timothy Jacob Noe. He remains in custody at the Multnomah County Inverness Jail. Noe was arraigned April 22 and entered a not guilty plea. Court records show that he is supposed to have a hearing next week. He has never been indicted by the grand jury. There is a court date scheduled for Noe on June 12.

The indictment filed against Luepke does not name any other of the original co-defendants. It does, however, list Noe, Knox and Burchask as individuals who testified before the grand jury, along with eight other individuals.

Luepke is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
