PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — What started off as a 3-car crash got a lot scarier when one of those cars flew through the air and hit the side of a retirement home on Southwest Barnes Road sometime late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the car damaged the 2nd floor of the assisted living community, which is about 10 feet from the ground. The car also had enough momentum to get over the fence surrounding the building.

Fortunately, no residents were hurt.

The driver, Andrew Brader, was taken to the hospital and cited for criminal mischief, reckless driving and reckless endangering. Thursday is Brader’s 41st birthday.

Deputies said Brader was extricated from their car and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while TVF&R called them life-threatening. KOIN 6 News is working to clarify the details.

Southwest Barnes Road was closed between Southwest Leahy Road and 84th Avenue, but reopened early Thursday.

It’s unclear what caused the crash or if the other drivers were injured, but deputies believe speed was a factor.
