PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The body of missing 22-year-old woman Katy Roe was found near Depoe Bay on Thursday morning.
Roe had not been seen since around 2 a.m. on Sunday, April 17. She was said to be walking home from the Wing Wa restaurant in Depoe Bay after having a drink with her grandmother, who left before her.
Her body was discovered around 6 a.m. in the water just outside of the Depoe Bay Harbor.
A piece of clothing belonging to Roe was found along the shoreline in Depoe Bay last week, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.
Officials say her body was consistent with having been in the water since the time of her disappearance and there were no obvious signs of foul play.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an official autopsy.
Brad Gnuschke, who owns the Sea Breeze Bakery in Depoe Bay, said the last few weeks have been heartwrenching. He said the entire town came together to support each other.
“It’s been difficult to see everybody kind of hurting,” he told KOIN 6 News. “It’s sad, but the family has some answers. There’s some closure. I couldn’t imagine having somebody lost and not knowing what happened to them.”
He said it was also good for everyone to know there “probably wasn’t foul play.”
