PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A popular Portland swimming pool is closed indefinitely due to another lead scare.
A county inspector reportedly found lead in the paint around the locker room at Buckman Pool, a public swimming pool inside Buckman Elementary. No lead was detected in the water.
Rosie Fiallo with Portland Public Schools says the district decided to shut down Buckman Pool Friday morning as a precautionary measure.
“Anybody who looks at the pool can see that it needs attention and that the locker rooms are not really in good shape and she’s been swimming here for about four years,” said Jenny Stansteh, a parent.
Signs posted outside the pool say it will be closed for the foreseeable future.
Portland Parks & Recreation is working to accommodate patrons at other nearby pools including Creston Pool, Matt Dishman Pool and Mt. Scott Pool.
