PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The man subject to a three-state sex crimes investigation, who is already serving a 25 year prison sentence, is facing additional charges.
KOIN 6 News has confirmed that Jonathan Roy Sokol was charged on Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, three counts of first-degree sodomy and three counts of second-degree sodomy. The alleged crimes occurred between September 1999 and July 2005.
In March 2015, a Washington County grand jury issued a secret indictment that charged Sokol with one count of first-degree sodomy and six counts of first-degree sexual abuse. The case resolved in August with Sokol pleading guilty to one count of first-degree sodomy. Prosecutors agreed to dismissed the 6 other charges he faced.
As part of the plea deal, Sokol was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the Washington County case.
Court records out of Washington County show that the plea deal was part of a “global resolution of a multi-state investigation.” As part of that agreement, he will be on lifelong post-prison supervision.
Based on the plea petition filed in Washington County Circuit Court, the states of New York and Ohio will “expressly agree not to prosecute Mr. Sokol for sex crimes committed by him against [redacted.]”
Records show that for the first-degree sodomy charged for which Sokol pled guilty to in Washington County he “engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with [redacted], a child less than 12 years of age.”
KCPQ-TV in Seattle reported in July 2015 that Sokol was wanted for targeting young boys. The station reported that Sokol was in Seattle to have his passport application expedited after “cashing out his 401K” when he discovered he was under investigation. It was also reported that detectives had identified four victims of Sokol between the ages of five and 13.
An arraignment date for Sokol’s new case in Multnomah County has not been scheduled. Specific details of the investigations against Sokol in Ohio and New York have not been disclosed.KOIN 6 News is working to get more details on this story and will have an update as investigators release additional information.
