CLACKAMAS, Ore. (KOIN) — It’s easy to spot Cole Turner on the football field. At 6-foot-6 he is head and shoulders above his teammates.
The senior wide receiver at Clackamas High School has been quietly but steadily leading the way, and now his team is playing for the Division 6-A State Championship against Medford.
“I think a lot of people that have my size aren’t really as coordinated and fast as I am,” Turner said. “So, I think that’s a big advantage for me.”
Head coach Joe Bushman said Turner has worked very hard to perfect his craft and grew into his body in the past few years.
“When he was a sophomore, he was still a little bit gangly,” Bushman said.
Turner said it all took a while, but “once I just dedicated myself 100% everything just started to fall into place for me.”
Will full command of his body, he makes life difficult for cornerbacks. It’s also something scouts have noticed.
“In the offseason I don’t know if anybody’s worked as hard as him, just working on his route running, releases against press coverages,” Bushman said. “The colleges come by and always ask about Cole and I say the bigger the game, the bigger he plays and that’s not just football, that’s basketball, too.”
Once he and the team finish their run toward a 6-A title, Cole Turner is committed to play at the University of Nevada.
