PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 24-year-old man will be sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in the death of 49-year-old Bernard Linton Yarborough.

On Tuesday, Ladarius Deshawn Storey Jr., entered a plea of guilty to one count each of first-degree manslaughter and first-degree robbery. Originally, he had been charged with two counts of aggravated murder and one count of murder, manslaughter, robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The other charges have been dismissed.

Storey has been in custody since September 16, 2012.

The investigation started on July 19, 2012, at 6:46 p.m., when police and the Gang Enforcement Team responded to the report of a shooting in the 5800 block of Northeast 6th Avenue. Officers arrived in the area and found Yarborough suffering from a gunshot wound. He died after being taken to a hospital.

Police have also arrested Jelani Jabari McClendon, Byron Lamar Bearyman and Deandre Money Goudy.

McClendon and Bearyman are already serving prison sentences after being convicted on one count of first-degree robbery in connection to the case. The fourth suspect in the case, Goudy, remains in the Multnomah County Detention Center. He is charged with one count of murder and first-degree robbery.

According to court documents filed earlier in the case, Yarborough “was showing off a rock of crack cocaine to people” in the area shortly before the shooting. Video from nearby businesses show four men contacting Yarborough and “interacting” with him shortly before the killing.

Records show that Storey – who goes by the street name of “LD”—is associated with the street gang “Gangsta Disciples.” According to court records, prosecutors believe that Storey “shot and killed” Yarborough during the commission of a robbery. Detectives learned that Yarborough was missing a cell phone and his cocaine.
