PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Multnomah County Medical Examiner identified the person shot and killed on Friday as 45-year-old Jason Washington.

The PSU Student Union previously identified Washington, however, authorities didn’t confirm his identify until Monday.
According to witnesses, Washington was trying to break up a fight early Friday morning outside the Cheerful Tortoise bar when he was shot. He was carrying a gun and had a concealed weapon permit. At one point, he lost his balance and fell — causing his gun to fall out of its holster, according to some witnesses.
Cell phone videos show Portland State University officers firing multiple shots.
The medical examiner performed an autopsy on Washington and said he died of a gunshot wound to the torso. However, it’s unclear how many times he was shot.
Washington worked for the U.S. Postal Service for the past 20 years as a letter carrier out of the main office downtown Portland. He also was a union steward and trained new employees. He served 3 years active duty in the Navy and several years in the Reserve.
He was married and a father of 3 as well as a grandfather.
His family joined a rally Sunday afternoon held to protest the shooting and to call for disarming campus police.
Witnesses previously said officers shouted “Drop your gun” before firing.
