PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One person is dead after a crash between a motorcycle and car occurred overnight near an illegal street racing event in North Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday, police responded to reports of a crash 6200 block of North Marine Drive. Once there, they learned a motorcycle collided with a Mercedes sedan.
The motorcyclist died at the scene and has not yet been identified.
Raphael Andres Orozco of Portland was driving the car that crashed with the motorcycle and was cited for Reckless Driving.
At the time of the crash, police say about 350 people were reportedly in the area for an illegal street racing event.
Speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, but the crash remains under investigation. This was the 23rd activation of the Major Crash Team, and the 21st fatal crash in Portland in 2021, according to PPB.
