PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man died in Northwest Portland Monday afternoon after he was pinned in between a construction truck and a tree.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. at Northwest 23rd and Everett, according to the Portland Police Bureau. Officers learned the involved driver was a co-worker of the pedestrian, who was helping the driver park a work truck.

As the driver was maneuvering — he backed up, pinning his co-worker, Jose Romero-Ramirez, between a tree and the back of the truck. Mr. Romero-Ramirez, 52, lived in Milwaukie.

Witnesses at the scene told KOIN 6 News crews the driver meant to go forward but accidentally reversed. However, authorities did not comment on this witness testimony in an update on Tuesday morning.

The PPB says a nearby AMR ambulance saw what happened and sprung into action right away. Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and immediately started to assist medical personnel.

Despite their life-saving efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
