PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver involved in a head-on crash shot a bystander as he fled the crash scene in North Portland on Thursday evening, police said.
The crash between an SUV and another vehicle happened around 5:25 p.m on N. Columbia Boulevard and North Vancouver. When police arrived they found one driver with life-threatening injuries and another man with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Authorities said bystanders tried to stop the SUV driver from running away, but he shot one. The suspect and a woman ran off together and remain at large.
The injured driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The shooting victim was also taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
