PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Walmart in Gresham that left one man dead Monday, police said.

Police originally responded to a report of shots being fired just after 6 p.m. Monday near the store on 182nd Avenue and Powell Blvd. While they were en route, several 911 callers reported that a man had been shot.

According to an arrest report, 26-year-old Daniel Hipshman allegedly shot and killed Dashawn Hudson after a road rage incident had escalated. The documents state Hudson cut off Hipshman, who then followed Hudson and his family to the Walmart parking lot, at one point cutting them off in response.

The report says once Hudson came to a stop into the lot, he told his family to go inside and go to the bathroom. Afterward, he got out of his car and pulled out a gun — later discovered to be a BB gun.

Hudson then walked up to Hipshman’s truck. That’s when Hipshman allegedly fired off fatal shots from inside his vehicle, striking Hudson twice.

Hudson’s wife and four kids then walked outside to find him lying in the parking lot, dead.

Detectives questioned witnesses at the scene. Some said Hipshman never even got out of his truck, but he did circle the parking lot at least two times. People reported hearing him say something along the lines of “That’s what you get for cutting me off!”

Hipshman was arrested early Wednesday morning, Gresham police said. He was booked into Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of murder in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon.
