PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Three teenagers now face murder charges connected to the shooting death of a 65-year-old man in North Portland on October 14.
Ricky Malone Sr. was found in the street at North Mohawk Avenue and Hendricks Street around 6 a.m. that day. Police initially said they went to the area on a welfare check. Malone died of a gunshot wound and was dead when officers arrived.
The youths — 15, 15 and 14 — were arrested after a search of a residence associated with them, Portland police said. They were taken into custody Thursday morning after “a coordinated effort” between homicide detectives, the Tactical Operations and PPB North Precinct.
They’re currently being held in the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Center and each faces one count of murder.
