SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) — Salem police say a juvenile suspect was shot and killed by officers on Wednesday evening during an exchange of gunfire amid an arrest attempt.

According to Salem police, the suspect was being sought for his involvement in a pair of shootings that took place in Salem on March 18 and June 13.

After the suspect was contacted by officers in a car parked in the 4900 block of Oak Park Dr. NE around 5 p.m., the suspect allegedly produced a gun and exchanged gunfire with the officers. Police say the suspect was shot and died at the scene.

The Salem Police Department does not release the names of juveniles in criminal cases.

The officer that was shot was transported to Salem Health and is expected to make a full recovery. The names and years of service of the involved Salem Police officers are:

  • Officer Brian Frazzini, 19 years
  • Officer Erick Hernandez, 14 years
  • Officer Ryan Morris, 20 years
  • Officer Adam Waite, 14 years
