PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man who tried to take a 5-year-old girl from a caregiver was arrested in Northwest Portland Monday afternoon after being pepper sprayed by the caregiver, police said.
The caregiver called police around 2:30 p.m. to report the attempted kidnapping. Officers rushed to the scene at NW 1st and Davis and learned the suspect, later identified as Spencer T. Meng, tried to take the girl and threatened to stab the caregiver.
That’s when the caregiver pepper sprayed Meng and got the girl to safety, authorities said.
Meng, 43, was arrested and taken to the Multnomah County Jail, but was medically refused entry. He was then taken by ambulance to an area hospital and put under a police hold as being a danger to others. He faces felonies for attempted kidnapping, unlawful used of a weapon, menacing and possession of meth.
