BEAVERTON, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspicious death investigation is underway after a missing teen was found dead at Westside Linear Park, Beaverton police said.
Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a report of suspicious circumstances at the park near the intersection of SW Barrows Road and SW Horizon Boulevard. On the scene, police found 13-year-old Milana Li dead in a small stream a day after her mother reported her missing.
In an email to the Conestoga Middle School community, where Li was a sixth grade student, principal Zan Hess said “our hearts break for Milana’s loved ones, including her family and friends. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts tonight.”
Hess said extra counselors will be at the school to support students and staff.
“There are no words to express the grief of losing a child. Please know that my staff and I are here for all of you and your students,” Hess added.
According to police, Li ran away from her home in the Murrayhill neighborhood and was last seen at her apartment around 4 p.m. Monday.
Beaverton police said the circumstances surrounding her death are suspicious and are continuing to investigate. Authorities ask anyone with information to call Detective Cindy Herring at 503-526-2280.
