PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Tualatin police say a man who was dropping off his dog at a shelter had his van stolen and infant child kidnapped when another man jumped in the Kia Sedona and drove off.
Officers responded to the reported kidnapping around 6:45 a.m. at Oregon Dog Rescue on Southwest Nyberg Street in Tualatin.
Police learned the dad had parked in the lot and left the car running while he went into the shelter to drop off the dog. According to TPD, that’s when the suspect got in the driver’s seat and drove away — with the man’s 9-month-old baby still inside.
Shortly thereafter, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Marcus Paul, allegedly dropped the baby on the side of a road in Oregon City. A witness found the baby and told police.
The baby was not hurt in the ordeal.
Police eventually caught up with Paul and the van using the man’s cell phone tracker, TPD said. They found him at the corner of Northeast 95th Avenue and Prescott Street in Portland where Paul then took off on foot, police said.
Officers took him into custody after a short pursuit.
Paul is facing multiple charges, including first-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and endangering the welfare of a minor. He will be lodged at the Washington County Jail.
