PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman and infant are in the hospital with critical injuries after a domestic violence shooting in Southwest Washington that killed one other.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Salmon Creek neighborhood of Vancouver just after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

“They received a 911 call from a female claiming her husband had just shot their baby and her and then himself,” said Sgt. Chris Skidmore with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived at the home and made entry, they found three people with gunshot wounds and immediately started first aid response. Police say the suspected shooter, the man the 911 caller said was her husband, was pronounced dead at the scene and there is no current risk to the public. Both the woman and infant were taken to nearby hospitals with critical injuries.

“Upon arrival at the hospital, she was intubated and taken back into surgery. Sounds like she may be out of surgery now,” said Sgt. Skidmore.

The identities of the family have not been released, but CCSO says there doesn’t appear to be past domestic violence cases between them.

“There’s nothing that we know of, at least initially, with a look at any of the court stuff of a history of domestic violence between the two,” said Skidmore.

The sheriff’s office adds that they’re also not aware of any calls made to that home in recent years. CCSO and the Vancouver Police Department’s Major Crimes Units are both actively investigating.
