PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Homicide detectives were called to the scene of a fatal shooting in North Portland, not far from Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
Shortly before 7 p.m. PPB officers went to the area of North Vancouver and North Stanton after a reported shooting. The victim died at the scene, officials said.
One person who lives nearby told KOIN 6 News her neighbors heard about 40 shots.
Officers set up a large perimeter and checked several buildings along Williams Avenue for evidence of gunfire. Streets in the area were closed for hours during the investigation.
Officials with Legacy Emanuel confirmed they were on lockdown for a brief time Thursday during this incident.
This is the 5th homicide in the Portland metro since Saturday:
- A 23-year-old Uber driver was shot and killed in the early hours of December 12 in Northeast Portland
- A teenager was slain in a shooting that spanned about a mile in Southeast Portland Monday afternoon
- A 44-year-old man was shot and killed during an armed robbery at a marijuana dispensary in North Portland Monday night
- Gresham police said one person was killed in a shooting in the 19200 block of Northeast Clackamas Street just after 11 p.m. Monday.
At this time, no one is in custody for any of these homicides.
