Portland, Ore. (KOIN) — One suspect was shot and killed after an armed robbery at Key Bank on Southeast Burnside at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday, Gresham police said.

Authorities described the suspect as a white man who police found in a getaway car — leading police into Troutdale and back to Gresham. The chase ended in the Gresham Station shopping mall parking lot, where police say the suspected robber and a female accomplice carjacked another driver. That’s when a deputy and officer shot and killed the suspected robber.

The carjacking victim was not injured.

“While he was driving, the suspect shot a number of times at the responding officers,” Multnomah County Sheriff Mike Reese said.

“We believe this suspect was involved in other bank robberies in the Portland metro area,” Reese said.

The woman was arrested and no one else was injured during the incident.

“This was an extremely chaotic and dangerous incident. It occured in rush hour commute hours,” Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg said.

The deputy sheriff and police officer who fired their guns have been placed on leave, pending the investigation.

East Multnomah County Major Crimes Team responded to conduct the investigation –which includes Gresham Police Department, Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, FBI, Port of Portland and the District Attorney’s Office.
