PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Four people were shot and killed inside of a Southeast Portland home Sunday night, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home in the 4000 block of SE Boise Street around 10:30 p.m. Inside, officers found the bodies of four people with apparent gunshot wounds.

As of Monday evening no arrests had been made, Lt. Greg Pashley told KOIN 6 News detectives were still working to determine the involvement of those at the scene. They did rule out murder-suicide.

“There are no known threats to the community generally,” he said. “But it is not known if everyone involved has been accounted for. Those investigative details may come later.”

The investigation is ongoing and autopsies will be performed, according to police. If the medical examiner determines these deaths to be homicides, PPB said the total number of homicides for 2021 would jump to 41.

“Portland police are doing what we can to keep the community safe,” Lt. Pashley said. “The situation that we’re in, is, that we’re responding to violent crime. Lots of it in Portland.”

KOIN 6 News reached out to Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office and they declined to comment at this time.

Details of the victims have not yet been released.

What neighbors said

A neighbor who spoke with KOIN 6 News, Patia, said every once in a while police activity pops up on SE Boise, but that Sunday’s event was the first time something “big” happened in the 4 years she has been a resident.

“It’s usually safe, we know most of our neighbors,” she said. “I want to keep my family safe and make sure our neighbors are safe. So that concerns me of course.”

“It’s been a rough year. People are stressed out. A lot of tension,” neighbor Sonia Clark said. “It’s just sad. It’s really sad. I hope they find who did this.”

Chris Neal and Morgan Swore live a block away and said they heard at least a dozen emergency vehicles drive by Sunday night.

“Just getting ready for bed, feeding the baby, started hearing sirens, then I saw the lights coming up the street and started counting because there were so many,” Swore told KOIN 6 News. “That feeling of ‘I hope this is an overreaction and not something really serious’ and unfortunately that’s not the case.”

Neal said he was surprised to see the active scene on his way to work Monday morning.

“I had heard that it happened already but I wasn’t expecting to see that intense of an investigation still going on,” he said.

They and others in the neighborhood told KOIN 6 News that even with the rise in gun violence across the city, they’re not scared. They’re just sad.

“I feel like it was an isolated incident. It doesn’t seem like it was a random attack on anyone, which saddens me more than frightens me,” Neal said.
