Nenemeny Ekiek appeared in a Cowlitz County court on charges related to the armed robbery murder of Kelso store clerk Kayla Chapman, February 6, 2019 (KOIN)

Nenemeny Ekiek is accused of being in the getaway car in the early morning hours after Kayla Chapman was shot to death during an armed robbery at Holt’s Quick Chek. The suspected getaway driver, Erkinson K. Bossy, 23, was taken into custody and is being treated at a hospital for life-threatening injuries sustained in the incident. He did not have gunshot wounds.

Bossy is also accused of leading police on the Tuesday night chase that began in Vancouver when police tried to pull his car over in a traffic stop.

As this escalated, Portland police originially only wanted to aide in the pursuit if Bossy moved off the highways, as is heard in part of the dispatch call obtained by KOIN 6 News.

“We’re not going to get involved in pursuit on the highway, if they come on the surface streets we may, (unintelligible) We will offer cover, but that’s it.”

But that changed quickly.

Vancouver police tried to sideswip the truck and spin it out on I-205 southbound at Killingsworth. Then officers set up multiple spots with spike strips as the driver moved west on I-84.

That was where it ended. Police littered the vehicle with non-lethal rounds, eventually taking 2 suspects into custody.

I-84 was closed for about 12 hours from I-5 to I-205, re-opening around 9 a.m.

If Bossy recovers from his injuries, he will become the 3rd person to face charges in the murder of Kayla Chapman.
