PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man was found dead in the St. Johns neighborhood following a shooting Friday morning, authorities said.
According to police, they responded to a report of a man dead in a home on N Columbia Boulevard just after 6 a.m. Friday. Once they arrived, officers reportedly found the victim deceased.
No arrests have yet been made, according to police.
Gerald Wood, who lives nearby, told KOIN 6 News he was watching TV late at night when he heard two gun shots.
Other neighbors said they also heard two “pops”.
Wood said he stayed inside after hearing the noises.
“Last night I didn’t go out, I heard the ‘bang, bang,’ and I stayed in the dark to see if I could see someone walking around,” Wood said. “I looked around I didn’t see any silhouettes.”
On the scene Friday afternoon, a KOIN 6 News crew saw a large police presence and a house roped off with police tape as homicide detectives investigated. The medical examiner arrived at noon.
PPB says in total, so far this year in Portland, there have been 38 homicides, 173 people injured by gunfire, and a total of 563 shootings.
Two other people went to the hospital over night after a shooting in southeast Portland, according to police. Officials said one of them has life threatening injuries.
