PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Kelso Police Department has released further details in Friday’s apparent murder/suicide that took place in front of a convenience store.
Officers were called the AM/PM on Allen Street in Kelso just after 8 p.m. Friday after reports of gunshots in the parking lot. Upon arrival, officers found two dead bodies in two separate cars on opposite ends of the lot.
A preliminary investigation found that Scott Belenski drove into the lot minutes after Brittany Thuney arrived in her car. Belenski, 60, parked his vehicle next to Thuney’s, got out and fired a pistol several times into her car, according to Kelso Police. Thuney, 31, was unable to escape and died inside the car.
Belenski then got back into his car, drove to the other side of the lot and shot himself, according to police, resulting in his own death.
Investigators said Belenski was the biological grandfather of Thuney’s seven-year-old child who had just been dropped off with the boy’s father–Belenski’s son–prior to Thuney arriving at the AM/PM.
The child has since been returned to Thuney’s immediate family, according to police.
The investigation remains open.
