PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police confirmed that a man was killed Monday in the Roseway neighborhood near McDaniel High School.

Officers responded to the 3200 block of NE 81st Ave., which is where they discovered a dead body. After an investigation, officers determined that the man was the victim of a homicide.

“I just kind of asked them what is going on here, because they have several cars out here and the streets were blocked off, there was police tape around the trees in my yard,” said neighbor Mary Nelson. “They just said there was a shooting last night.”

Northeast 81st Ave. was closed from NE Siskiyou to Northeast Klickitat St., while detectives investigated. Police left the scene just after 7 p.m.

Police have not said if there’s a suspect, or if any arrests have been made.

“Things like this have been happening so much along 82nd over the last couple of years,” said one neighbor who wished to remain anonymous. “I feel kind of unsafe when I’m walking alone.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Michael Jones at Michael.jones@portlandoregon.gov (503)823-0991 or Detective Michael Schmerber at Michael.schmerber@portlandoregon.gov (503)823-0991.

According to the City of Portland’s crime statistics database, the Roseway Neighborhood saw no homicides between May 2015 through June 2021. Since then, records through April of this year show at least three homicides, not including Monday’s homicide.
