PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — One Southeast Portland family had a close call when gunfire pierced their home and went into their bathroom shower Friday night.
The family was at their home on SE 155th near Burnside at the time of the shooting shortly after 11:30 p.m. No one was hurt. But investigators said it could have been a much different situation.
They took shelter in a lower level of the house once the gunfire began. But with little witness information, the investigation is now trying to determine who is responsible by tracking down security camera footage.
“Surveillance video, oftentimes, is the linchpin in the effort to determine who’s responsible for a crime,” PPB Sgt. Kevin Allen said. “Especially in a shooting case, we can gain a lot of information from a surveillance camera.”
But surveillance video is difficult to come by in this case, he said. While many homes in the area of this shooting appear to have security cameras, some homeowners are reportedly refusing to cooperate with police.
Authorities said they need the help of the larger community if the city is going to get a handle on gun violence.
