Suspect identified, in custody after 3-hour SE Portland standoff

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland Police Bureau has released the identity of an armed and wanted felon who was taken into custody after a standoff with Portland police that lasted more than 3 hours and blocked roads in Southeast Portland.

Police said Colby R. Lindsey, 30, of Portland, was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges: Violation of Restraining Order (2 counts), Criminal Mischief in the First Degree, Attempting to Elude by Vehicle, Assault in the Fourth Degree-Domestic Violence, Menacing-Domestic Violence, Harassment.

The incident began around 4:30 p.m. Friday when the Lindsey — wanted for domestic violence and gun-related crimes — was spotted in the 4300 block of SE 114th.

The suspect was driving away in a white pickup but was quickly boxed in by police vehicles. Authorities said he tried to ram his way out but was not able to get out. When he refused to surrender, the situation escalated and SERT was called to the scene, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team.

When pepper spray was not enough to get him to get out of the pickup, an armored vehicle arrived to let officers get closer. The pickup’s tires were destroyed but the suspect kept trying to get out and spun his wheels on the cement.

Shortly before 8 p.m., CS gas was used next to his pickup and the suspect soon surrendered.

No one was hurt. Authorities said they found 2 guns inside the pickup.
