PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Months after an 85-year-old man was killed, his family hopes a new reward will encourage someone with information to come forward.
Eugene Gora was found dead in his home on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on May 10 under suspicious circumstances. There are still no leads in the investigation, but Gora’s grandson believes someone saw something that night.
“I don’t want to let my grandfather down so I’m trying to seek justice,” Sam Scalf told KOIN 6 News.
Crime Stoppers of Oregon is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest.
“Money does wonders, you know,” Scalf said. “People will turn their best buddy in for 5 bucks.”

Gora had lived in that Northeast Portland apartment for nearly 50 years and was considered a father figure in the neighborhood. Now, messages from family and friends and a painting of Gora cover the building he called home as a constant reminder of what the community lost.
“In your mind, you get frustrated, you get mad, you start thinking of all the different scenarios that could play out,” Scalf said. “Each day that goes by you just want justice more and more.”
Scalf said he doesn’t need to know why this happened, just that the person responsible won’t be able to do it again.
“I just want that person to be in jail and to rot in jail and think about how much of a coward that person is for doing this to another human being,” he said.
