PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A shooting that left 2 people dead in Tigard does not appear to be random, officials said, when they announced a suspect was taken into custody in Sandy.
Ronald Terry Stephens, who will turn 41 on Christmas Eve, is now facing two counts of first-degree murder, Tigard police said late Thursday. He will be transported to the Washington County Jail.
A man and woman were both shot and killed at The Burches apartment complex on Southwest Greenburg Road and Southwest 95th Avenue. Officers responded just before noon and found the two victims already deceased.
Authorities initially asked nearby residents to please stay inside their homes while conducting their search, which has since concluded. People living in the area no longer need to shelter-in-place.
The Washington County Major Crimes Team is investigating. Homicide detectives are on scene and will likely be for several hours. However, SW Greenburg Road was reopened to traffic shortly before 4:30 p.m.
This is a developing story.
