PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The teenager shot to death by a Vancouver police officer earlier this week was convicted in late 2018 in Clark County of a knife assault.
Clayton Joseph was charged with 2 counts of 2nd-degree assault November 16, 2018. He appeared in juvenile court December 5 and probable cause documents revealed the incidents happened on October 12.
That day Joseph had a large steak knife and swung it at one person along SE Ellsworth Road before trying to take another teen’s skateboard at an elementary school after threatening him with the knife.
The Columbian reports Joseph admitted the attacks and said he intended to stab them.
Tuesday night, Joseph was involved in a fight with another person when Vancouver police told him to drop the knife. He refused and was shot to death.
Joseph was 16.
Body to go ‘back home’
The family of Joseph said they plan to send the teen’s body “back home for burial” to Micronesia. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay for those costs.
