PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The man who fired a gun at the Portland International Airport Friday morning pleaded not guilty to the various charges he’s facing.
Deshawn Seamster, 31, faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, assault of a public safety officer, interfering with a public safety officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass with a firearm, and felon in possession of a firearm.
The Port of Portland said Seamster shot himself with his own weapon during a struggle with an officer inside a revolving door around 5 a.m. on Sept. 27. A bullet hole was found in the revolving door.
Seamster was sent to a hospital to be treated for his gunshot wound. He was arrested shortly afterward.
Seamster has a history of convictions including being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, delivery of cocaine, burglary, disorderly conduct.
KOIN 6 News spoke with a few of Seamster’s family members who were in court Monday and they said he was not a passenger on a flight—he is homeless and was likely sleeping there at the airport.
Seamster put in his not guilty plea when he appeared in court on Monday afternoon. He is due back in court next week.
