PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland police are looking for suspects after a bullet nearly hit a woman as she drove her son to the gym Monday night in Southeast Portland.
A stray bullet went through Erica Wilson’s windshield and she thought another struck one of her tires around 9 p.m. near the intersection of SE 72nd and Woodstock Boulevard. Two Portland park rangers were in a vehicle traveling between parks on SE 72nd when bullets hit their rear side panel, officials told KOIN 6 News. Neither ranger was hurt and they called 911.
The Portland Police Bureau said it recovered 26 casings from the scene.
No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made, police said.
Wilson said she never expected to nearly be a victim of gun violence and believes Portland is becoming increasingly dangerous.
“I was just driving with my son, going to LA Fitness and we heard banging, thought it was fireworks, and it ended up being a couple guns. Flew right through the windshield, hit it smack dab right there. Pretty scary,” she said. “We had just dropped the dog off from a run and it probably would have hit her because that’s where she sits — that’s her spot in the car.”
The issue with the tire was unrelated, she told KOIN 6 News.
