KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (KOIN) – A former deputy district attorney for Klamath County is being sued for assault and battery along with the intentional infliction of emotional distress after he reportedly brandished a gun during an altercation.
According to the lawsuit, which was filed earlier this week, Cole Chase was at the Basin Martini Bar on Oct. 24, 2014 when he was involved in a verbal dispute with another customer, identified as Brad Zimmer.
At the time of the dispute, Chase was on call for the DA’s office.
Chase and Zimmer left the bar to carry on their fight, according to court documents. Chase left first and Zimmer followed.
“Immediately after exiting the back door [the other man] was met by [Chase] who had pulled out a weapon and forcefully pressed the pistol to [the other man’s] neck/head region making threats while doing so,” the court documents state.
The lawsuit calls for $250,000.
According to the Associated Press, Chase pleaded no contest in March to two counts each of menacing and unlawful use of a weapon. Charges of reckless endangering and pointing a firearm at another were dismissed.
Records from the Oregon State Bar show that Chase resigned as a prosecutor in Dec. 2014. He maintains a law license.
Chase did not immediately respond to a press inquiry for comment.
