PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — State and local law enforcement worked with the FBI Wednesday to execute multiple search warrants related to a suspected drug smuggling operation.
The FBI confirms the significant operation included simultaneous search warrants at several locations throughout the Portland metro area.
On Wednesday, a 20-page indictment was unsealed in U.S. District Court as the defendants made their first court appearances.
The indictment identifies Francisco Nuno-Urenda, Jose Octavio-Gonzalez, Pablo Ernesto Torres-Zavala, Ricardo Lopez, Oscar Gutierrez, Perla Rubio Valdez, Enrique Guerrero-Salazar, Angelica Maria Guerrero-Salazar, Catalina Ortega-Moreno and Fabiola Ortiz as defendants.
Several names were redacted, presumably because they have not been located by law enforcement.
The indictment alleges conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin, distribution of heroin, possession with intent to distribute heroin, distribution of heroin, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, distribution of cocaine, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
As part of the conspiracy stored, some of the defendants transported and concealed a controlled substance, the indictment reveals. The group used cellphones “to further the possession and distribution of controlled substance.”
Some of the defendants are accused of processing, storing, weighing, and packaging controlled substances for delivery, the indictment alleges. Additionally, some in the organization are said to have maintained premises for distributing the drugs.
The vehicles used for distributing the drugs had hidden compartments, records show.
Two of the defendants are accused of publishing a YouTube video on April 7, 2014. The “narcocorrido music video” depicted violence including showing off a firearm. The video has been viewed more than 28,500 times, according to the indictment.
The indictment alleges the following drug transactions occurred:
- Certain suspects sold 24.6 grams of heroin in exchange for $1,000
- Certain suspects sold 23 grams of heroin in exchange for $1,000
- Certain suspects sold 26.2 grams of heroin in exchange for $900
- Certain suspects used cellphones and vehicles to obtain and distribute about 125 grams of heroin within Oregon.
- One suspect sold about 288 grams of cocaine for $11,000
- Two of the suspects coordinated the importation of 2.1 kilograms of meth from Mexico into the U.S.
Some of the defendants may have detention hearings scheduled for Friday.
