PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 22-year-old man has been released from the Multnomah County Detention Center after 10% of his $785,000 bail was posted late Wednesday afternoon.
Detectives with the Portland Police Bureau’s Sex Crimes Unit continue to investigate Jameson Kirpal Hedges who has been charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy, first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, coercion, third-degree robbery, strangulation and fourth-degree assault.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the $78,500 was posted Wednesday and that Hedges was released from custody at 6:08 p.m. Wednesday.
According to court documents, Portland Police responded after a 911 call was place from the Harrison West condo building. An officer was told by the woman that “she was physically and sexually assaulted” by Hedges “…after he had lured her into his residence under the false pretenses of having offered her a job interview.”
The woman told police that she escaped the apartment after Hedges’ went to use the restroom. She was found inside an elevator, topless and crying, according to court documents.
Hedges reportedly told the victim that he was sorry for the attack and that he was intoxicated, court documents state. Police were listening into the phone conversation and Hedges reported described himself as a “gentle giant,” court documents state.
At his arraignment on Monday, Judge Jean Kerr Maurer ordered that Hedges not have any contact with the alleged victim.
He is scheduled to be in court next Tuesday, according to court records.
