NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A car manufacturer worked with Nashville police to stop a suspected thief, eventually disabling the SUV remotely while the man was fleeing police on the interstate.
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by WKRN, Hyundai alerted the Metro Nashville Police Department Thursday about the stolen SUV and agreed to help officers track the suspect, who later identified as Alex Oldham.
Officers with the MNPD Juvenile Crime Task Force spotted the stolen SUV on Clarksville Pike and Cliff Drive in Bordeaux and tried to pull him over. Instead of stopping, officers say the suspect took off.
Hyundai shut off the SUV’s power remotely as the suspect drove down I-65 North, according to police officials. After the car stopped working, police say, Oldham got out from the passenger side as it was slowing down and started running.
A K-9 chased after him, according to the affidavit, and an officer was able to stop him.
Oldham was found in possession of the stolen SUV’s key and marijuana, according to arresting officers. He is now charged with theft of property and felony drug offenses.
Inside the SUV, police reportedly found 11.2 grams of heroin, 7 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of meth and $500 cash “in denominations consistent with street-level narcotics sales.”
