EUGENE, Ore. (KOIN) — Two officers with the Eugene Police Department shot and injured a man after being called to a physical dispute at an apartment on Saturday at 12:51 a.m.

Officers responded to the 3600 block of Village Avenue after an individual called 911 to say a drunk man was hitting his girlfriend in an apartment.

When authorities arrived at the apartment, they said they found a man standing outside the front door holding a gun. That man was shot by the two officers and subsequently hospitalized, according to authorities. He was later identified as Edgar Rodriguez, 26, of Eugene.

After the incident, officers learned the man shot was not the one hitting his girlfriend. Instead, authorities said they believe the shooting victim was the man who initially called 911.

Both officers (uninjured from the incident) were placed on administrative leave, which is protocol after such a shooting.

Oregon State Police are now investigating the shooting.

The officers were identified by the Eugene Police Department as Mark Hubbard, 41, and  Timothy Hunt, 38. Hubbard has been with the department for 18 years, and Hunt has been with the department for 4 years.
