PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The two people found dead in the Mount Hood National Forest were killed, the Clackamas County Medical Examiner determined.
The bodies, found Monday morning about 15 miles east of Estacada, were identified as Stacy Jean Rickerd, 42, and 43-year-old Jeremy David Merchant. They were found in an area near a gravel pit where people go to shoot guns, said Sgt. Marcus Mendoza.
Mendoza told KOIN 6 News there is no suspect at this time but it is correct to say that whoever killed Rickerd and Merchant remains at large.
The medical examiner determined they died of “homicidal violence,” but the manner of death was not released.
A dog named Talladega was also found at the scene, according to authorities. The dog, who was described by an on-scene deputy as “sweet,” appears to be unharmed and has since been placed with the victims’ family members.
