PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A St. Helens man was indicted on 41 charges related to domestic violence after investigators learned a “disturbing story of ongoing abuse.”

According to court documents, Jeremy Boyd abused the victim by urinating on her, smearing dog feces on her face, burning her, pouring water on her, punching her in the ribs and face, cutting her hair, kicking her and threatening to hurt her if she left home.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said deputies first encountered the victim when they did a welfare check because she didn’t show up for work. They found her on her front porch with a black eye, cuts on her hand and pain all over.

Investigators said Boyd tried to keep the victim from speaking to authorities and she told them she no longer needed help. Deputies couldn’t convince the victim to leave the house but knew there was more to the story, so they forced entry and took Boyd into custody.

Eventually deputies learned about more than a month’s worth of incidents of assault. Court documents detail incidents of abuse from at least December 2017 and into March 2018.

“This is a terrible case of domestic violence,” said Sheriff Jeff Dickerson in a press release. “Our investigators worked the case doggedly to tie up the loose ends in this case and to present a credible case to the grand jury. I also want to thank the advocate from SAFE who came to the scene, and helped the victim through the painful issues associated with this kind of abuse. ”

The victim is safe and Boyd remains in jail on $924,250 bail.
