GRANTS PASS, Ore. (KOIN) – A 31-year-old man is charged with the attempted murder of three people after he reportedly shot at their vehicle, according to court documents.

Jeffery Allen McGhee is charged with three counts of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon. He is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The charges were filed last week.

Investigators say that McGhee was a passenger in a car when he pointed a shotgun out the passenger window and fired it on Dec. 12, 2015 at a Ford pickup.

The shotgun blast struck the pickup and McGhee and the driver fled, according to court documents.

Last week, police spoke with McGhee and he admitted he was the one who fired the shotgun, according to court records. He claimed it was an accident and meant to fire a warning shot at the other vehicle. He said “he felt compelled by [the driver] to shoot at the truck,” according to records.

McGhee is scheduled to be back in court on April 29.
