PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 29-year-old missing woman who suffers from some disabilities and was last seen Tuesday afternoon on the Astoria Riverwalk may have walked into the water.
Maya Sanders’s mother reported her missing around 4 p.m., according to the Astoria Police Department.
She was last seen in the downtown area crossing Marine Drive at 16th Street at 1:30 p.m. Some of her property was found at 6th Street and then a scarf was later located near the Comfort Suites on the Riverwalk.
On Thursday morning, Astoria police said surveillance footage showed Maya in the North Tongue Point Industrial area around 3 p.m. Tuesday. She was alone and started walking on the pier, however, the video doesn’t show her returning to shore.
A search and rescue dog was deployed in the area and ended up tracking her scent to the same location — the end of the pier.
“Based on this information, there is a strong probability that she went into the water,” Deputy Police Chief Eric Halverson said.
Dive teams searched nearby waters, but didn’t find her by the time they stopped around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Maya was last seen wearing a long shirt that is black, white and green, and also had on pink shoes. She’s about 5-foot-9 and weighs 130 pounds.
Anyone who may have seen Maya is asked to call Astoria police at 503.325.4411.
