PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Owen Klinger began classes at the University of Portland in August. The 18-year-old lives on campus but his roommates called his parents on Monday to say he hadn’t returned after leaving around 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
“His roommates called to let us know he was missing from the dorm and they alerted the hall director and Campus Safety office Monday morning,” his father, Dustin Klinger, said.
Earlier that day he stopped at a campus ATM and told his roommates he was headed to a lacrosse club team meeting.

“Sunday evening he did get money out of the ATM machine on campus, ate food at the Pilot House, then was going to be headed to a lacrosse meeting or practice,” his parents said. “But it sounds like he was a little evasive with his roommates about what his plans were.”
Campus video captured the back of him as he walked out of his dorm, Christie Hall. The 6-foot-1 freshman was wearing a light blue hooded sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers and had a drawstring backpack. He has mid-length brown hair and brown eyes.

The UP WiFi system placed him on the edge of campus by the TriMet line about 8 p.m. and his phone lost power around 8:30 p.m.
His parents said while he was a Grant High School student he always came home. Family and friends have been posting flyers around the UP campus and his family’s home has become the command post to find him.

School was going well, his parents said, he had friends and he was regularly in touch with both his parents and his brother and sister. Recently his mom said she stopped by his dorm to give him his guitar and there was no sign anything was wrong.
Family friend Bob Sweet told KOIN 6 News Owen came by a couple of weeks ago to hang out before his son headed off to college.
“He just wasn’t the kind of kid who would just disappear off campus or go out of town or anything like that,” Sweet said.
His parents just want to know where he is.

“If someone gave him a ride or saw him walking somewhere, we just want to know,” Mary Klinger said.
“So many people love Owen and want to know he’s OK and help find him and bring him home. We don’t even know where to look.”
Dozens of people rallied behind Owen’s parents in their search for the missing teen on Tuesday night, posting flyers around North Portland.
Shauna Prince has known Owen’s parents for decades. She and her friends were among some 50 people who pounded the pavement in more than a dozen places around the city.

“Owen is this rock; steady, salt-of-the-Earth kind of guy,” Prince said. “So this is completely out of the ordinary, unexpected.”
She said those who are helping in the search just want to bring Owen home.
“We are all family, right. If something happened to a member of my family, I would want them to be out and helping so we are just doing whatever we can to be in support of Mary and Dustin and their family.”
Still, the search parties have uncovered no clues as to Owen’s whereabouts.
“It’s pretty scary for everyone and especially for the Klingers,” Prince said. “We are just holding them in our hearts.”
