PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The mother of a woman who was killed in Portland in July has been found safe after being missing for over a week, according to family members.

Relatives told KOIN 6 News on Wednesday that ShaRee Rhone was found at her godson’s house in Washington state.

Before Wednesday night, Rhone had not been seen by family or friends since December 21. She was last seen at her home in the 4500 block of NE Cleveland. A formal missing person’s report was made Wednesday and the search intensified.

Family members and friends told KOIN 6 News Rhone had struggled ever since her daughter, Aja Rhone-Spears, was killed at a vigil for a shooting victim in Northeast Portland in July.

“It has impacted her in so many ways,” said Rhone’s sister Michelle Hall. “You know, there’s times when she’s good and then something will happen and she has a moment. She’s getting better but it’s going to be a long process.”

A friend of Rhone’s — Reynelda Hayes — said Rhone visited her the Monday before Christmas and they talked on the phone later that same day.

“I was calling her on Tuesday to check on her because I know she hasn’t been herself lately and when I called to check on her, her phone was going to voicemail. It’s been going to voicemail ever since,” said Hayes. She later filed the missing person’s report.

Hayes said Rhone had gotten lost recently while in Estacada so she’d decided to try to help her friend prevent any future issues with directions.

“What’s really bizarre is the day she was at my house I was trying to help her get the navigation in her car so that if she got lost we could ping the car and find her and we got all the way up to the part where it was time for her to pay and then she decided ‘well I’ll just go ahead and use my phone’ and so we didn’t do it,” Hayes said.

Hayes said the grieving mother was also the victim of a hit-and-run in November of 2019. Rhone was reportedly hit while walking after leaving work near the Lloyd Center. Hayes said she was left with head trauma and injuries to her arm and leg.

“She’s just overwhelmed, she’s just not herself. She’s like confused,” Hayes said.

Hayes said she planned to make sure Rhone setup the navigation system in her car as soon as possible.

The murder of Rhone’s daughter remains unsolved. Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Portland police at 503.823.3333.
