PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Kim Wall and her husband Stuart have 4 grown children — plus 4 more children they adopted in September 2017.
But this September, the mother of 8 just wasn’t herself.
“I was being crazy, like I was forgetting to do mom stuff, like pick up the kids, make dinner,” Kim told KOIN 6 News.
Stuart took her to the doctor and he “said, ‘Something’s wrong with my wife. She’s being nice to me,” she said, laughing. “Which is so sad.”
To the doctors, it all made sense. They discovered Kim had a large brain tumor.
They tried to remove the tumor, but Kim said they can’t because of its position in her brain. She’s been undergoing radiation to try and stop it from spreading.
Her focus is her family, she told KOIN 6 News, and her kids have been such an inspiration to keep going even when she’s tired.
“I feel like God has blocked the pain part from me, like the most emotional pain part,” she said. “I’m not scared. I’m not mad. I’m sad because I want to have as much time to do as many things as I can with these little people.”
Since her first 4 kids were little, the family has been saving up change to go to Disney World. Her daughter started a GoFundMe page to add to their savings so the Wall family could go to Disney World together as well as on a cruise.
They hoped to go in the spring, but doctors said Kim needs to go in December. They’re doing everything they can to make that work.
“They were like, ‘If you want to have a quality trip, you need to do it in December,” she said.”
Her daughter, Kira Bracken, said, “I don’t want to go through life without her. She’s my best friend.”
So, for now, they’re focusing on making memories and celebrating an endless family love.
“I just feel very, very blessed,” Kim said.
