More than 375,000 people are expected to ring in the New Year on the Las Vegas Strip.
Preparing for this annual event is a monumental effort.
It involves six miles of pedestrian fencing which has been placed along the Strip to keep people where they’re supposed to be.
County crews have also placed dozens — perhaps hundreds — of portable toilets near the sidewalks and barricades have been installed for road closures.
When it’s all executed right, revelers who welcome the New Year will hardly notice what has become a well-oiled machine to make this celebration happen.
“We’re going to be up all night and then get on the plane and ride home,” said Latricia Pritchett, who is visiting from Detroit, Michigan. “This is how you do it, sleep all the way home! Party all night and sleep all the way home!
“We had a fantastic wedding at the Bellagio, it was wonderful, and I couldn’t be more thankful to be here for New Year’s, I mean this is supposed to be the biggest party ever, so we’re excited,” said Debra Coffman, who is visiting from Michigan.
While crews have had a few days to set all of this up, it must all come down and fast. The Strip will be cleaned up and opened back up before dawn thanks to an army of county workers and an armada of two dozen street sweepers working in unison to collect some 15 tons of trash left behind by revelers.
