PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A grand jury on Thursday handed up a 10-count indictment against the three men accused of killing Ravell Deshawn Sterling, and records show the men have been linked to a second robbery.
Sterling – a talented musician – according to his family, was shot and killed on Feb. 5th in a parking lot near Southeast 174th and Southeast Stark Street.
Family tells KOIN 6 News that Sterling left his home to walk to a nearby store. Investigators believe Sterling was approached by Rony Alexander Celis, Charles Moi Moi and Clayton Eldridge Harrell III who planned on robbing Sterling. During the alleged robbery, Sterling was shot and killed.
Moi Moi and Harrell are charged with one count each of aggravated murder with a firearm. Police confirm they recovered evidence from the scene that suggested two guns were used during the shooting.Celis is charged with one count of murder.
All three men are charged with six counts of robbery. Prosecutors allege that firearms were used in four of the six counts.
Records also show detectives have identified a second robbery victim, in addition to Sterling.
That robbery occurred at Southeast 179th and Southeast Stark Street, about an hour before Sterling was shot and killed.
That victim, a transient, was robbed at gunpoint but wasn’t hurt.
Moi Moi and Harrell remain in custody in Cowlitz County. Celis is scheduled to appear in court on Friday where he will be arraigned on the new grand jury indictment.
All three men were taken into custody following a high speed chase from Northeast Portland that ended in Cowlitz County.
Celis waived his right to an extradition hearing and was transported back to Oregon earlier this week.
